Hamas has been thrown into chaos as it scrambles to find those responsible for tipping off IDF forces about the whereabouts of Hamas leader Mohammed Deif.

According to Saudi Al-Hadath News Agency, the collaborators are believed to be Hamas members who tracked Deif to a location near Gaza’s Al-Shati refugee camp that got bombed by Israeli forces on Saturday. The report also indicates that Israel had arrested several second and third-tier Hamas leaders, possibly obtaining valuable intelligence from them.

Meanwhile, the IDF confirmed on Sunday that Rafa’a Salameh (Right), the commander of Hamas’s Khan Younis Brigade and a close associate of Deif, was killed during the attack. Salameh, who joined Hamas in the 1990s, was directly involved in the 2006 kidnapping of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit and played a significant role in constructing Hamas’ vast network of terror tunnels.

No information regarding the fate of Deif has been reported by either Israel or Arab news outlets. Considered second-in-command in the terror organization, Deif has evaded capture for years, becoming infamous for his role in orchestrating the October 7 massacre and suicide bombings during the 2nd intifada against Israel.

If indeed Deif is dead, the leadership of Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades will reportedly pass to Muhammad Sinwar, brother of Israel’s number one target Yahya Sinwar.
