0 commentsA year after the October 7 massacre that shook Israel to its core, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is reportedly reviving a tactic that will bring shivers to the spines of Israelis who lived through the intifadas in the early 2000s.
According to the Wall Street Journal, citing Arab intelligence officials with direct lines to Hamas leadership, Sinwar has given the order to restart suicide bombings against Israel.

It was a period of intensified Arab violence that began in late 2000 where bombers killed thousands of Jews by blowing themselves up in Israeli cities and buses. The psychological effects of these horrific bombings have lingered long after the intifada officially ended in 2005.
Sinwar, who seized full control of Hamas’s political arm in August, is steering the group toward an even more dangerous path than his now-dead counterpart Ismail Haniyeh. In a letter seen by the newspaper, Sinwar boasts that Hamas is “prepared for a long war of attrition to break Israel’s will.”
However, not everyone in Hamas is on board with Sinwar’s bloodthirsty vision.
The WSJ reports rumblings of discontent, especially among the group’s Qatar-based officials. Some have privately branded Sinwar a “megalomaniac,” according to Israeli columnist Ehud Yaari, who claims to have a line to the Hamas chief. Yaari says these critics are muttering that Sinwar “made a mistake” and is a “political amateur.”
Yet Sinwar’s iron grip on Hamas remains unshaken. His endgame is to weather Israel’s military storm and emerge as the undisputed champion of the “Palestinian cause.” As Gaza burns and peace talks falter under Sinwar’s leadership, if true, Sinwar’s resurrection of suicide bombing could, poses a nightmarish threat for Israel.”
