New details have emerged surrounding the deadly pager attack in Lebanon that has sparked the latest round of violence between Israel and Hezbollah.

According to Reuters, citing an unnamed Hezbollah official, 1,500 terrorists were taken out of commission between last Tuesday and Wednesday because of their injuries, with many having been blinded or had their hands blown off. Although considered a significant setback, Hezbollah’s fighting force is believed to comprise 40-50,000 fighters and hold an arsenal of 150,000 rockets.

Hezbollah’s military capabilities have significantly rebounded since the 2006 Lebanon war. This time around, the Iranian-backed terror organization has strategically dispersed its military resources across villages bordering Israel’s northern border. Evidence suggests they are using civilian homes to store ammunition and house missile launchers.

Israel is closely watching for signs of Hezbollah deploying its Fateh-110 missiles. These ballistic missiles, capable of striking targets up to 300 km away, are believed to be kept below ground. Much like Hamas, the Lebanese terror outfit has spent years building a vast tunnel network that extends for hundreds of miles.

On Wednesday, Israel’s air defense systems intercepted an incoming missile aimed at Tel Aviv. Although Hezbollah claims to have been targeting Mossad headquarters, Israel’s military asserted that the missile was headed towards a civilian area. In response, the IDF conducted extensive airstrikes on southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.

Hezbollah retaliated by firing approximately 40 rockets into northern Israel’s Galilee region. Some were intercepted, while others struck open areas or populated zones. An assisted living facility in Safed was hit, though no injuries were reported.
