US officials have acknowledged that a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas terrorists in Gaza may not materialize despite months of diplomatic efforts.

“No deal is imminent,” one official is quoted as saying by the WSJ. “The complexity of negotiating with a terrorist organization makes progress challenging.” Furthermore, US national security advisers “have no imminent plans” to present President Joe Biden with an updated ceasefire proposal.

Administration insiders are described by the Journal as being “frustrated” with Hamas’s tendency to make demands, then “refuse to say ‘yes'” when those are accepted. There’s also mounting skepticism about Hamas being “serious about completing an agreement.”

Since Hamas’ brutal massacre on October 7, the Iranian-backed terrorist group has continued to make unreasonable demands and has blamed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for impeding peace.

“Reaching an agreement requires serious American pressure on Netanyahu. Hamas’ stance is that Netanyahu is the one obstructing the agreement, as he has not given clear approval on the points of the agreement,” Hamas spokesperson Hussam Badran said on Friday.

“Netanyahu deliberately imposes impossible conditions to sabotage any chance of reaching an agreement. The occupation poses a threat to Arabs and the entire region. We face it in the West Bank and Gaza, and the region will not calm down unless the aggression on Gaza stops.”

Meanwhile, presidential hopeful Kamala Harris is claiming to be “working around the clock” to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.

“I absolutely believe that this war has to end, and it has to end as soon as possible,” Harris said during a recent interview with members of the National Association of Black Journalists. “And the way that will be achieved is by getting a hostage deal and the ceasefire deal done. And we are working around the clock to achieve that end.”

With less than 2 months left until the US presidential election, Jewish voters will be looking closely to see if Harris’ self-proclaimed efforts pay off in bringing Israel’s hostages safely back home.
