A Jewish Chabad-run school was hit in Kyiv as Russia launched a massive drone strike on the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday.

While the attack left significant structural damage – including wrecked classrooms, a damaged student lounge and a destroyed shuttle bus – no one at the school was hurt. Several injuries were reported in a neighboring apartment building.

“Some of our students are refugee children from other cities, and sometimes they have to sleep at the school; we have rooms specifically for such cases,” Principal Elena Vasilivna told The Algemeiner. “Throughout the war, we made sure to continue the school routine to provide the children with stability, a supportive atmosphere, and a place where they can play with their friends.”

Kyiv’s Chief Rabbi Yonatan Markovitch, who visited the blast site alongside city officials including Mayor Vitali Klitschko, called it a “tremendous miracle” that students weren’t present during the attack.

“Just as the school has remained operational throughout the war, so too will we continue to nurture our children’s souls, even in these challenging times,” Markovitch said.

The strike was part of a wider assault that saw Russia launch over 60 Iranian-made Shahed drones at Ukraine, marking the 19th such attack on Kyiv this month alone.

Meanwhile, around 3,000 North Korean troops have arrived just 30 miles from Ukraine’s border in Russia’s Kursk region, Ukrainian intelligence officials told the Financial Times. The force includes several hundred special forces soldiers alongside regular troops.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed North Korea’s military deployment to Russia, with some troops possibly already operating inside Ukraine. While U.S. intelligence estimates around 10,000 North Korean troops have joined Russian forces, Ukrainian officials put the number closer to 12,000.

A South Korean delegation is reportedly set to visit Ukraine later this week to share intelligence about North Korea’s military presence.
