Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is once again doing everything in his power to stop America from helping its closest ally defend herself from a war of annihilation.

On Thursday, Sanders announced he’ll force Senate votes next week on resolutions aimed at blocking $8.8 billion in defensive arms sales to Israel.

“The latest Trump sales provide almost $8.8 billion more in U.S. bombs and other munitions, including more than 35,000 massive 2,000-pound bombs. The United States must not continue to supply endless amounts of military aid and weaponry to the Netanyahu government,” he said.

Typically, Sanders accused Israel’s Prime Minister of restricting humanitarian aid to Gaza, leading to what he described as “widespread starvation and suffering.”

“Netanyahu has clearly violated U.S. and international law in this brutal war, and we must end our complicity in the carnage. No humanitarian aid has entered Gaza in more than three and a half weeks since Israeli authorities announced a complete blockade – that’s no food, water, medicine, or fuel since the start of March,” he claimed.

Of course, the long-standing Israeli critic couldn’t be more mistaken. Although not widely reported in the mainstream media, Israel has been at the forefront of easing humanitarian conditions in Gaza, including the strategic reopening of the Erez and Kissufim crossings as well as establishing new aid routes throughout the territory. The Knesset  has also taken steps to streamline operations by reducing bureaucratic hurdles that had previously slowed aid organizations’ ability to operate effectively in the region.

Since retaking office in January, President Trump has reinforced America’s commitment to Israel’s defense capabilities, quickly reversing arms restrictions implemented during the Biden administration. In turn, Sanders has filed eight joint resolutions of disapproval on more than $12.5 billion in weapons sales to Israel.

However, his resolutions face long odds in a Congress where support for Israel’s security remains strong. This isn’t Sanders’ first attempt to block arms shipments either. Last November, the Senate overwhelmingly rejected similar resolutions proposed by the Vermont senator, with one voted down 79-18 and another soundly defeated with only 19 Democrats in support.
