A Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday became a target for anti-Israel protesters.
As Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was presenting information about anti-Israel demonstrations on university campuses, a visibly agitated individual in the audience stood up and began shouting profanities directed at the Jewish people and Israelis.
“Why are we talking about antisemitism? What about the thousands dead in Gaza?” “Talk about the 40,000 casualties in Gaza. Talk about all these people. Why is this about antisemitism? F—k the law,” the protester yelled before being escorted from the room by security personnel.
In response, Cruz stated, “We’ve just witnessed a display of antisemitism and hatred firsthand.”
The Texas senator then criticized Democrats for what he perceived as weakness against antisemitism. He pledged that if Republicans gain control of the Senate and win the presidency in the upcoming election, there would be stricter enforcement and prosecution of such behavior.
America’s Jewish population faced an unprecedented wave of hatred after October 7, with the ADL’s yearly audit showing antisemitic incidents reaching staggering numbers.
Synagogues, community centers, and schools bore the brunt of this surge, with 1,987 incidents reported in 2023, a staggering 237% increase from the year prior. This figure includes over a thousand instances of “swatting,” where false bomb threats were called in to create panic and disruption.
Meanwhile, physical assaults on Jewish individuals jumped by 45%, while acts of vandalism saw a 69% rise. Even more alarming was the 184% spike in harassment cases. College campuses emerged as particularly hostile environments, with antisemitic incidents skyrocketing by 321%.
