The Shin Bet and Israel Police have thwarted a bombing and shooting terror attack planned by a resident of the Galilee, assisted by illegal Arabs. The suspect, 23-year-old Basel Aba’areh from Arraba in the Galilee, was arrested on August 12, 2024.

During his interrogation by the Shin Bet, it was revealed that Aba’areh had planned a combined attack involving explosive devices followed by shooting at Jewish visitors to the graves of Tzadikim in the Galilee. In preparation, he had collaborated with Arabs with expertise in explosives, who were residing illegally in Israel. Aba’areh had been surveilling potential targets for the attack in the months leading up to his arrest.

Additionally, Aba’areh recruited two minors to join the military cell he had formed. Both minors were also arrested and interrogated.

During the investigation, communication devices, military vests, and dual-use materials for bomb-making were seized. The cell’s activities were thwarted before they could execute their plan, which was still in its early stages.
