The son of a man accused of plotting to assassinate former President Donald Trump has been arrested on federal child pornography charges.
Over the past 17 years, Oran Alexander Routh, has faced at least 39 criminal cases, mostly involving traffic violations and drug possession charges. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to assaulting a female and received 18 months’ probation.
The latest chapter in Oran’s legal troubles began on Saturday when the FBI searched his North Carolina home. While the search was initially conducted in relation to the investigation of his father, Ryan Wesley Routh, law enforcement found cocaine, MDMA, and ketamine, along with drug paraphernalia in the home.
Most disturbingly, two Samsung phones were found in Oran’s bedroom containing hundreds of files with inappropriate content involving minors. Investigators also discovered a messaging app commonly used for distributing such illegal content, with evidence of Routh requesting and receiving inappropriate material.
Based on these findings, Oran was charged on Tuesday with one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled, and he has not entered a plea.
Of course, Oran’s story has gained additional attention due to his father’s simultaneous arrest for allegedly plotting to assassinate the former president. Ryan was officially charged on Tuesday with attempted assassination, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and assaulting a federal officer. These new allegations are in addition to previous charges of illegal firearm possession by a felon and having a gun with an obliterated serial number.
