Fresh off concussing Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a dirty helmet shot, Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair isn’t apologizing. Instead, he’s shoving his anti-Israel sentiment in critics’ faces.
The NFL handed down a three-game ban after Al-Shaair launched into a helmet-first hit on the sliding Jaguars quarterback during last Sunday’s matchup, leaving Lawrence with both a concussion and shoulder injury. The hit drew immediate flags and widespread condemnation across social media.
Join the JBN+ WhatsApp Group“Ooh now I really hate him,” one NFL fan wrote, while another said, “An unnecessary & brutal attack, just like Hamas against Israel on Oct. 7.”
Stadium security and Texans personnel had to remove Al-Shaair from EverBank Stadium after fans pelted him with garbage.
But the Muslim linebacker is showing zero remorse. Hours after his suspension was upheld, Al-Shaair posted photos on Instagram of the pro-Hamas cleats he wore during the game, writing, “If you want me to be your villain, I’ll be your villain.” He also added a middle finger emoji for good measure on the since deleted post.
Al-Shaair’s provocative cleats featured unverified casualty figures pushed by Hamas’s health ministry claiming over 41,000 Gazan deaths. They were created for the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” program, with proceeds flowing to a charity operating Al-Rantisi Hospital in Gaza. Israeli forces say that facility, named for a Hamas founder, served as a base for terrorists and a site for holding hostages seized in the October 7 massacre.
Local Houston reporter Chancellor Johnson dug through footage of Al-Shaair’s pre-game routine, revealing the linebacker had also written a Quranic verse inside his cleats: “Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we will all return.”
