Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz has raised the alarm over Iran’s attempts to open a new eastern front in Jordan for its proxy war against the Jewish state.

“A serious and dangerous situation is unfolding,” Katz warned on X. “Iranian Revolutionary Guard units are collaborating with Hamas operatives in Lebanon to smuggle weapons and funds into Jordan with the aim of destabilizing the regime.”

The foreign minister painted a grim picture of the West Bank situation, stating that the “Iranian axis of evil” effectively controls refugee camps in the area through its proxies, leaving the Palestinian Authority powerless. He specifically mentioned the Jenin refugee camp as a hub that requires a thorough operational campaign to dismantle the terror infrastructure.”

Although Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi took to X to deny the accusation, calling it “disinformation” and “lies,” Katz is not alone in thinking Iran may turn to Jordan for their terror agenda.

Former US Assistant Secretary of State David Schenkerexplains to Iran International how Tehran aims to destabilize Jordan. It would be accomplished through various means, including inciting protests against the ruling Hashemite dynasty and increasing drug and weapons smuggling through the kingdom.

After all, with Palestinians constituting nearly 60% of the country’s population, Jordan finds itself in a difficult position regarding public support for Israel.

Still, experts suggest that Jordan’s strategic relationship with Israel dating back to 1994 remains intact, particularly in matters of security. This was clearly evidenced by Jordan’s participation in a global coalition that thwarted over 400 Iranian missiles and drones aimed at Israel back in April.
