A Pennsylvania campaign rally for Donald Trump turned into a horror scene on Saturday when a gunman opened fire at the former president.

The shooting occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m., shortly after Trump took the stage. Video footage captured the chilling moment when multiple shots rang out, causing Trump to grab his right ear as Secret Service agents swiftly rushed to protect him. Despite the chaos, Trump defiantly raised his fist to the crowd as he was whisked away.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro immediately confirmed that Trump had been escorted to safety, while State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens sought to reassure the public that there was no evidence of any more threats at that time.

The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, was reportedly neutralized by Secret Service agents with a bullet to his head. Tragically, an audience member lost his life, while two other attendees suffered critical injuries.

In a statement released after the attack, Trump revealed that a bullet had pierced the upper part of his right ear. However, the resilient former president assured his supporters that he was fine and vowed to attend Monday’s Republican National Convention.

Trump, who has been a polarizing figure in American politics, has faced criticism in the past for his divisive rhetoric and his role in the January 6 Capitol riot. However, political leaders across the spectrum have condemned the assassination attempt, emphasizing that violence has no place in America.

“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information,” Biden wrote on X.

“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also took to X to wish Trump a speedy recovery.

“Sara and I were shocked by the apparent attack on President Trump,” he said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “We pray for his safety and speedy recovery.”
