President Donald Trump has withdrawn Rep. Elise Stefanik’s nomination for UN ambassador on Thursday, pointing to Republicans’ precarious hold on the House of Representatives.
“As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning. With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat.”

“I wish my friend, Elise Stefanik, a true ally of the State of Israel, great success. I am confident that she will continue to stand by our side in any position she holds,” Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon wrote in a post on X after the news broke.
“The bond between Israel and the United States is stronger today than ever before. I am certain that we will continue to advance the shared values of our two nations together on the international stage, especially at the United Nations.”
Trump’s decision comes just days before Tuesday’s special elections in Florida to fill two Republican vacancies. Those seats opened when Trump tapped former Reps. Matt Gaetz and Mike Waltz for administration roles.
Gaetz, originally picked as attorney general, later withdrew amid renewed scrutiny over sexual misconduct allegations he has consistently denied. Waltz, now serving as national security adviser, recently faced backlash after accidentally adding The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to a text group discussing planned U.S. military strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen. That group reportedly included top White House officials like Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance.
