Turkey filed an official request on Wednesday to join South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which accuses Israel of committing ‘genocide’ in Gaza.
In a post on X, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan justified their decision, stating, “The international community must do its part to stop the genocide and exert the necessary pressure on Israel and its supporters. Turkey will make every effort to do so.”
South Africa has been at the forefront of legal action against Israel at the ICJ this year. As a result, the ICJ has ordered Israel on multiple occasions to stop committing alleged acts of genocide against Arabs and take stronger action to facilitate humanitarian relief in Gaza.
Escalating its crusade against Israel, South Africa submitted another petition to the ICJ last month. In it, they requested that the judges impose additional provisional measures against Israel, arguing that the court’s existing punitive measures are not having the desired effect. As a result, the ICJ declared Israel’s “occupation” of Judea & Samaria and East Jerusalem illegal and called for its end as soon as possible.
Joining Turkey in supporting South Africa’s “case” against Israel are Egypt, Spain, Mexico, Chile, and the Palestinian Authority.
