0 commentsBrooklyn’s Jewish community is grappling with a new wave of antisemitic violence after two Jewish men were stabbed over the weekend.
On Friday night, a Hasidic man was stabbed near the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights. According to local news outlet COLLive, the incident began when a man reportedly shouted “Free Palestine!” and antisemitic slurs at a group of Jewish men.
After initially being ignored, the man confronted another Jewish group and stabbed one person and attempted to stab another. Witnesses alerted police and local volunteer safety patrols, and the suspect was apprehended shortly after fleeing the scene. The Hasid was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Authorities have not yet stated whether the case will be classified as a hate crime.
In a separate incident, a Jewish volunteer was stabbed at the Masbia of Flatbush soup kitchen on Coney Island Avenue. An altercation began when a client argued with staff over a pitcher of apple juice. The situation escalated, resulting in the volunteer being stabbed in the stomach just outside the facility.
The 17-year-old teenage victim was taken to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition. NYPD have yet to arrest the suspect and is asking the community for any tips or leads.
