The British government ramped up its economic offensive against Iran on Tuesday by unleashing a fresh salvo of sanctions targeting a shadowy unit within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Not much is known about Unit 700, other than it is considered the linchpin in Tehran’s regional arms smuggling network. Eyewitnesses reported to Iran International seeing Unit 700’s weapons cargo concealed as humanitarian aid at Syria’s Aleppo Airport in the aftermath of an earthquake in 2023. Gal Farsat, a former IRGC heavyweight with deep terror ties across the Middle East, is believed to be pulling the strings of this clandestine unit.

Additionally, the UK’s Foreign Office imposed sanctions on three Iranian individuals for their roles in destabilizing Britain, Israel, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon.

Hamid Fazeli, ex-chief of Iran’s Space Organization and current head of the IRGC’s Unit 340, is said to coordinate rocket shipments between the regime and its terror proxies. Also in the crosshairs is Behnam Shahriyari who was previously sanctioned by the US in 2011 for his role in an IRGC-linked shipping company funneling weapons to Hezbollah. Rounding out the list is Abdolfatah Ahvazian, a Quds Force commander advisor implicated in arming Hamas and privy to their October 7 massacre plans against Israel.

Meanwhile, the UK’s Security Service is warning that the country could soon be swept into Iran’s genocidal war against Israel and the broader West. Yet, despite mounting pressure and a growing sanctions list, the government has thus far resisted calls to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization outright.
