Holocaust memorials in Belgium and Germany were vandalized this week in another grim reminder of Europe’s meteoric rise in antisemitism.
According to the Algemeiner, a Holocaust memorial park was found on Friday marred by a large spray-painted swastika and Celtic Cross. The site commemorates the heroic actions of Nazi resistance fighters Youra Livchitz, Jean Franklemon, and Robert Maistriau who helped 200 Belgian Jews escape a deportation train bound for Auschwitz.

Across the border in the city of Weimar, Germany, seven small memorials embedded in sidewalks marking Jewish homes seized by the Nazis were defaced with the chilling words “Jews are perpetrators.”
According to the Anti-Defamation League, Jewish hatred has risen significantly in Germany since Hamas stunned the world with their massacre of Israeli civilians on October 7, with authorities registering 5,154 antisemitic incidents, a 95% increase compared to the year prior.
Jewish advocacy groups argue that for extremists driven by a depraved antisemitic zeal, even the sanctity of memorializing the victims of the Third Reich’s industrial-scale genocide has become permissible. Tolerating a standard of fusing anti-Israel radicalism and Holocaust revisionism will only further embolden resurgent antisemites on their quests towards fulfilling Hitler’s dream of making Europe *Judenfrei*.
