With 13,000 employees and branches in 20 countries worldwide, it’s among the largest media organizations in Asia and the Pacific region. Its director-general is appointed directly by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, making it a key tool of government messaging.
Operating twelve domestic television channels, four international news channels, and thirty provincial stations, the network’s English-language Press TV has faced bans and sanctions in several Western countries over accusations of spreading government-backed propaganda.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz made an omnious warning prior to the strikes saying the “Iranian propaganda and incitement mouthpiece is on its way to disappearing.”
