As concerns mount over President Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities following a disastrous debate performance, the White House is scrambling to provide evidence of the president’s ability to lead.
A New York Times feature highlights several instances of the president’s gaffes including confusion confusion during a D-Day ceremony and forgetting his homeland security secretary’s name. Still, the White House insists Biden remains sharp as ever by pointing to a behind-the-scenes exchange with Prime Minister Netanyahu during Iran’s missile barrage against Israel on April 13.
“Mr. Biden and his top national security officials were in the Situation Room for hours, bracing for the attack, which came around midnight. Biden was updated in real time as the forces he ordered into the region began shooting down Iranian missiles and drones. He peppered leaders with questions throughout the response,” a White House aide recounted.
At one point, Biden forcefully warned Netanyahu against launching a large-scale counterattack.
“Let me be crystal clear, if you launch a big attack on Iran, you’re on your own,” he said.
After all Iranian aerial threats were eliminated, Biden contacted Netanyahu again to advocate for restraint.
“Take the win,” the president candidly said without a formal script, according to two other sources who were present at the time. When Netanyahu pushed back, citing the need for a strong response, Biden doubled down by saying “You do this, and I’m out.”
Worries about Biden’s mental acuity have been a hot topic during this election cycle, becoming more prominent after Special Council Robert Hur’s report in February describing the 81-year-old as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
During last Thursday’s debate with Republican Donald Trump, the president was often seen struggling with his speech, occasionally veering off topic. Biden voice came across as raspy, and he received widespread media criticism for his perceived slow and weak performance against the former president.
Biden is not able to process information. The Obama team is calling the shots and they do not want Israel to succeed . Look what Israel discovered in Rafah. The only way Israel can win is the complete demanteling of Hamas.
