A suspect accused of throwing a burning object at Israel’s embassy in The Hague has been arrested, reports AFP.

According to the French news outlet, a suspect was arrested after allegedly throwing a burning object towards the Israeli embassy on Thursday at 10:50 a.m. local time. The police reported that no one was injured in the incident, and an investigation is underway. A barrier has been erected around the embassy premises by police for security measures.

The Israeli embassy in The Hague publicly condemned the attack on X.

“It is unacceptable that such an attack can take place in the Netherlands. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. This shows the dangerous consequences of the worrying trend of increasing hatred and incitement. This hatred cannot be tolerated,” the statement read.

Outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte echoed the embassy’s sentiments, branding the attack as utterly unacceptable. He stressed that while a difference of opinion is encouraged, it should never escalate to violence. Rutte expressed his gratitude to the authorities for taking the situation seriously.

Israeli embassies worldwide have been on heightened alert since Oct. 7, triggered by anti-Israel protests and increased threats against Israeli diplomatic missions.
