Fears regarding the fate of the remaining Israeli hostages are continuing to rise as the Gaza war enters its seventh month.
“We do not know how many Israeli prisoners are alive or dead at the moment,” Qatar-based Hamas leader Moussa Abu Marzouk told Asharq Al-Awsat in an interview on Thursday, as quoted by Arutz Sheva.
Marzouk also claimed that Hamas is just following the United Nations’ call for an immediate unconditional cease-fire and allowing Arab residents of northern Gaza to return home unrestricted.
On Wednesday, Hamas reportedly slashed the number of Israeli hostages it is willing to release to 20 in exchange for the release of hundreds of dangerous Arab prisoners. The terror organization is claiming that it does not have the 40 ‘humanitarian hostages, which include women and children, that Israel originally asked for during mediated negotiations in Doha this past week.
Meanwhile, CNN reports Qatar is considering removing itself as a mediator between Israel and Hamas, with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressing worry in a statement on Wednesday regarding the “political exploitation by some politicians with narrow interests, marketing their electoral campaigns through the defamation of Qatar’s role.”
The Sheikh did not reference any politicians or states by name,
Qatar, together with the US, has played a key role in mediated negotiations between Israel and Hamas since the Gaza war broke out in October, helping secure a short cease-fire in November that led to the return of 105 hostages.

The Odysseus spacecraft has dispatched new images it captured of the lunar surface during the lander’s harrowing approach to the moon. The vehicle softly touched down on the moon on Thursday, becoming the first US-made lander to do so since the Apollo era.
The grainy images were shared by Intuitive Machines, the company that developed Odysseus, on Monday morning. The company had initially projected that the lander could deliver the first images captured from the lunar surface in the hours after landing, but communicating with the spacecraft has proven challenging.

The mission team believes Odysseus tripped on the lunar soil and landed on its side, resting on a rock, which may have left some of the vehicle’s antennas pointed in an inopportune direction, Intuitive Machines revealed Friday.
In its update Monday, the company also said it now expects to lose contact with Odysseus on Tuesday — days earlier than initially hoped.
“Flight controllers intend to collect data until the lander’s solar panels are no longer exposed to light,” the company said in the update posted on the social media platform X. “Based on Earth and Moon positioning, we believe flight controllers will continue to communicate with Odysseus until Tuesday morning.”
At that point, Odysseus will have been operating less than five days on the lunar surface. The company had suggested in previous updates that the lander could function for up to nine days.
