The Israeli Air Force (IAF) is resuming its annual training program after it was suspended due to the outbreak of the Gaza War. The exercises will focus on enhancing the IAF’s readiness for a potential extended conflict in the north against Hezbollah.

The training exercise will reportedly encompass comprehensive, long-distance assaults, incursions deep into adversary territory, and unexpected drills for different units. It is expected to involve all units of the IAF as well as the Operational Headquarters, which will concurrently oversee efforts to boost readiness, continue training, and refine combat strategies during wartime.

The drills have been designed to not affect the IAF’s current operations in the Gaza Strip against Hamas.

Israel’s Air Force has been making significant strides in modernizing and expanding its capabilities in recent years. It is reportedly planning to increase its Joint Strike Fighter fleet to 75 jets, thanks to a $3 billion agreement with Lockheed Martin. The F-35s, named Adir (“Mighty One” in Hebrew), are capable of operating without aerial refueling over extensive ranges, allowing Israel to reach enemy targets much farther across away.
