A 26-year-old Israeli man was killed after falling to his death while rock-climbing in Australia, reports ABC News.

As per the report, Police Inspector Brad Winks said the man, along with other tourists, participated in rock climbing at Isabella Falls in Cairns on Sunday when the accident happened. Rescue teams found the young man in critical condition upon arrival, and despite their attempts to resuscitate him, they had to declare him dead at the scene.

“We won’t know until we get clear advice back from the medical examination that always occurs,” he said.

“That will give us a clearer picture of what actually has been the cause of death.”

Early indications point to the man losing his footing. According to Winks, there was a heavy downpour the afternoon the Israeli died, but a further investigation is required to see whether it contributed to his death.

Due to the high frequency of disasters, Queensland residents have long called for the closure of the Falls to visitors. The recent tragedy on Sunday is the third fatality at this well-known trekking spot in less than two years.
