Balimore Police are investigating a robbery that took place on Tuesday in the Jewish neighborhood of Ranchleigh.
As per the Hamodia, four teenagers drove a dark Kia Optima sedan into Ranchleigh shortly before 7 a.m. and stole a car parked in a driveway. The culprits then drove the stolen vehicle around the corner to the local synagogue, Kehillas Meor HaTorah, where community members were en route to the early morning prayer services.
The teenagers confronted Dovi Ziskind as he parked his white SUV to attend the morning service. Ziskind attempted to retreat to the safety of his vehicle, but the assailants were quick to act. They threw him to the ground and robbed him of his wallet, which allegedly held “significant cash.”
“I got in the car, and I was also trying to see if I could get the plates of their car. But before I knew what was happening, one guy came up to my door, and another one opened the passenger door,” Ziskind recalled to Hamodia.
The gang also pursued another congregant, Eli Neuberger, on his way to synagogue after he tried to alert others to the approaching danger.
“I yelled that they have guns and that he should get back in his car,” Neuberger told Hamodia.
The suspects eventually fled the scene in the same sedan they came into the heavily Jewish neighborhood with. Neither Ziskind nor Neuberger were seriously injured in the incident.
According to Baltimore County Police, the perpetrators do not appear to be “motivated by any factors other than a crime of opportunity.”
