A kosher eatery in Manhattan was defaced with a red and black swastikas this week.

“In my opinion, this incident is comparable to what the Jewish community experienced in Germany during the 1930s,” Sharon Hoota, the owner of ZIZi, told the New York Post.

“As a business owner and a citizen, I feel unsafe displaying the flags outside. It’s a clear indication that Jews and Israelis are being targeted once again. I’m left unprotected. It’s unfortunate that such incidents continue to occur in New York, and it appears to be escalating.”

This is not the first time Hoota has encountered antisemitism at his NYC restaurants, according to the report.

In December, at his other Kosher restaurant on the Upper East Side, Hummus Kitchen, a woman removed an American-Israeli flag and threw soup at an employee. A few days later, another woman pushed an employee after attempting to conceal the Israeli flag displayed outside the restaurant’s door. In late October, anti-Israel demonstrators passing by his ZIZi restaurant on Eighth Avenue damaged tables, defaced an Israeli flag, and intimidated employees.

“I am amazed that those entitled individuals just walk into a restaurant and brazenly attack personnel and deface property. They made it very clear that we are a target because of our national origin and chose destruction as a form of protest. We are not making any political claims. Israeli is what I am. It’s my identity, and food is a source of unity and peace for me,” he said.

“I guess peace is not everyone’s plate of hummus.”
