The government of Trinidad and Tobago has decided to recognize the ‘State of Palestine.’

“Recognition of Palestine is moral and just and demonstrates Trinidad and Tobago’s acknowledgement of and support for the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian People,” reads a Friday statement by the Caribbean Community and Common Market Affairs (CARICOM).

“This is our consistent foreign policy position, which is founded on Trinidad and Tobago’s respect for and adherence to international law and to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.”

CARICOM has long voiced support for the Arabs, having voted in favor of upgrading the Palestinian Authority’s status at the UN to a non-member observer in 2012 and supporting scores of anti-Israel resolutions throughout the years. Furthermore, just two weeks after the October 7 Hamas massacre, CARICOM Foreign Minister Dr. Amery Browne condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza and called for a “peaceful coexistence” between the two parties.

“With territorial, religious, and political grievances so passionately embedded in Palestinians’ minds, when Israel wins without a two-state resolution, the ‘war’ will continue in more ways than one – in very dangerous ways against Israel, such as suicidal terrorism,” he said.
