Report: Israeli Prisons are Running Out of Space

With the arrests of thousands of Hamas terrorists over the past six months of fighting in Gaza, Israel’s prison system is nearing its capacity.

As per Channel 12 News, over 100 terrorists who are being held under administrative detention in prisons across Israel were ordered to be released on Thursday, and arrest warrants have been canceled due to the lack of sufficient room in Israel’s prison system.

Administrative detention is a controversial law in Israel that allows for the detention of terror suspects without charging them or holding a trial for a period of six months. While critics say it strips away due process rights, proponents in Israel defend the policy as a necessary measure to prevent terrorism and maintain public safety.

Citing a security source, the blame falls on the Ministry of Finance for saving money at the cost of security.

In March, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the government to prepare for the expected mass wave of Arab terrorists. Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas on Oct. 7, about 4,000 Hamas terrorists have been arrested. Estimates suggest approximately 9,000 terrorists are currently in the Israeli prison system.
