Five skeletons were discovered at the former Nazi leader Hermann Goring’s residence at Hitler’s Wolf’s Lair in Poland.
As per The Guardian, amateur archaeologists unearthed the remains, believed to be those of a family missing their hands and feet, under Goring’s home at the Nazi military headquarters near the town of Kętrzyn this past week.
Join the JBN+ WhatsApp GroupOktavian Bartoszewski, head of the amateur research team, told The Guardian that the group had worked at the site for years, typically finding household items. However, they were “completely shocked” when uncovering a skull about 10cm underground while searching for buried wooden flooring in the burned-down home.
Further excavation revealed three adult skeletons, along with those of a teenager and a baby, all lying in the same direction without clothing or personal effects, suggesting the bodies were stripped beforehand. While decomposition could explain the missing hand and foot bones, amputation remains a possibility, according to the report.
Speculation surrounds whether Goring was aware of the burials under his quarters or if the remains were deposited post-war. Polish prosecutors are investigating the case, which has drawn attention due to the Wolf’s Lair’s role as a Nazi headquarters for military campaigns and the Holocaust.
