As Israel prepares to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day, major technology companies are utilizing their platforms to help educate the public and preserve survivor testimonies.
Meta continued its “Sharing Memories” initiative, featuring over 20 Israeli and Jewish influencers sharing stories from Holocaust survivors on their personal pages. Participants include Jewish actor Michael Rapaport, Game of Thrones star Ania Bukstein, and comedian Orel Tsabari.
“Four years ago, we began meeting survivors who opened their hearts to share their darkest moments – so we never forget,” Meta Israel CEO Adi Soffer Teeni told NoCamels. “But this year was particularly painful, as no survivor imagined those horrific memories resurfacing in their own home.”
The navigation app Waze also reprised its campaign to raise awareness of “Zikaron BaSalon” – intimate gatherings held in private homes across Israel, where survivors recount their experiences. For the second year, Waze displayed over 1,200 event locations and provided registration links.
“Holocaust survivor gatherings offer Israelis the powerful experience of connecting with living witnesses, experiencing firsthand the deep courage and resilience that must never be forgotten – storytelling that is more important now than ever before,” said Waze GM Gai Berkovich.
Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah in Hebrew) marks the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising during the Holocaust. Places of entertainment are closed, and memorial ceremonies are held throughout the country.
