Several mortars and rockets exploded near an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) facility at the Kerem Shalom border crossing on Sunday.

Initial reports suggest that ten rockets were fired from a launchpad in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah, nestled among civilian shelters. At least 10 Israelis were injured in the attack, including three in serious condition. As a result, the Kerem Shalom border crossing, which has been used to deliver humanitarian aid to Gazans, remains closed until further notice.

“Another clear example of the systematic exploitation that the Hamas terror organization makes of humanitarian facilities and spaces for terror needs, while using the civilian population as a human shield,” a statement by the IDF following the attack reads.

Although Israel has not launched a full-scale operation into Rafah as it awaits the terror groups’ response to a US-mediated ceasefire proposal, the IDF did not stop from killing senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander Iman Zareb on Saturday.

Zareb is responsible for the slaughter of dozens of Israelis in the southern community of Sufa and the nearby military post on October 7. Alongside Zareb, two other PIJ members were killed in the strike on his hideout apartment in Rafah, according to the IDF.
