Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. believes Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza is justified.

In an interview with Reuters, Kennedy called Israel a “moral nation” and responded more restrainedly than other countries might have in similar situations.

“Any other nation that was adjacent to a neighboring nation that was bombing it with rockets, sending commandos over to murder its citizens, pledging itself to murder every person in that nation and annihilate it, would go and level it with aerial bombardment,” Kennedy said.

“But Israel is a moral nation. So it didn’t do that. Instead, it built an iron dome to protect itself, so it would not have to go into Gaza.”

Kennedy announced in October that he would run as an independent candidate after initially starting his bid as a Democrat. He is expected to announce his choice for a running mate later this month. Among the names being circulated as possible choices are Aaron Rodgers, the NFL quarterback who made headlines for his views on COVID-19 vaccines; Nicole Shanahan, a lawyer with a growing profile; and U.S. Senator Rand Paul, known for his libertarian views.

A recent Reuters poll shows Kennedy is commanding the support of 15% of registered voters. This places him behind President Biden’s 39% and closely trails former President Trump, who holds a slight edge at 38%.
