Lawsuit Filed Against MIT for Enabling Antisemitic Environment

Two MIT students have filed a federal lawsuit against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), alleging the university’s “approval, support, and enablement” of antisemitism in violation of the students’ rights under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

The complaint alleges that MIT tolerates harassment of Jewish students and professors, allows calls for violence against Jews without disciplinary action, and tolerates discriminatory and harassing activities directed against Jews. It also claims that Jewish students feel unsafe attending classes, with some deferring graduation dates or exams and others avoiding certain locations on campus.

Details about the lawsuit highlight incidents where Jewish professors reported feeling intimidated by pro-Hamas and anti-Israel student groups.

The plaintiffs, represented by a team of lawyers from The StandWithUs Center for Legal Justice (SCLJ), argue that MIT’s administration has evaded accountability and continues to support antisemitism on its campus, with little to no repercussions for students violating campus policies.

They seek justice for Jewish students at MIT, emphasizing that Jewish students, like all students, should not have to feel unsafe at the university and are entitled to a safe and discrimination-free education as promised by the law.
