Over half of Israelis support an expanded war against Hezbollah, a new poll by the Jewish People’s Policy Institute shows.
According to the poll, 63% of respondents are in favor of launching attacks against the Iran-backed Hezbollah, although opinions are split on the timing. While 34% advocate for war after Israel takes care of Hamas in Gaza, 29% prefer immediate action, 28% lean towards seeking a diplomatic resolution, and 9% remain undecided.
If a war does break out on Israel’s northern border, it’s possible Hezbollah might have to fight it without Iran’s backing.
Reuters reports that Iranian Commander Esmail Qaani recently met with Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut to discuss the risk posed if Israel next takes aim at Hezbollah. Nasrallah reportedly reassured Qaani that he didn’t want Iran to get sucked into a war with Israel or the United States and that Hezbollah would fight on its own if it did.
On Sunday, Israeli fighter jets struck a Hezbollah terror compound in the area of al-Khyam in response to missiles fired toward Acre over the weekend.
