A plot to smuggle significant quantities of advanced weaponry to terrorist elements in Judea and Samaria has been foiled by the Shin Bet and the Israel Defense Forces.

Local Hebrew media reports that the scheme was discovered during interrogations of Arab terror suspects. Interrogations revealed Iran’s Unit 4000 and Unit 18840 of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Syria were working with Munir Makdah, a resident of Lebanon who has long been linked to Hezbollah and the IRGC, to facilitate the weaponry. Makdah was also responsible for recruiting Arabs living in Judea and Samaria to carry out terror attacks against Israel.

Among the Iranian weapons seized by Israel were BTB15 fragmentation bombs, YM-2 anti-tank landmines, M203 grenade launchers, explosives, anti-tank missiles, RPG launchers, assault rifles, and handguns.

Weapons smuggling presents a perennial security concern for Israel in Judea & Samaria and along its extensive eastern border with Jordan. Particularly in Jordan, the risk is heightened due to the border’s minimal fencing and limited surveillance.
