The sister of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of supporting terrorism.

During a raid on the suspect’s residence in Tel Sheva in Southern Israel, police seized documents and other evidence showing her involvement in “serious security offenses.” The unidentified 57-year-old woman was promptly detained by police.

Haniyeh’s sister is due for a court hearing at the Beersheva Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Despite being directly responsible for thousands of Israeli deaths over the decades, including on Oct. 7, Haniyeh has directly benefited from Israel’s  desire to balance security with humanitarian health needs. Priort to the Gaza war, it has had a longstanding policy of admitting Gazan patients for medical treatment, extending this policy to the family of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, with several members receiving care in Israeli hospitals.

In February, one of Haniyeh’s nieces gave birth at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, according to reports. In 2014, The Hamas leader’s daughter received medical care at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, with the nature of her illness remaining undisclosed. Haniyeh’s mother-in-law received treatment at Augusta Victoria Hospital near Jerusalem in the same year. Earlier, in 2013, his one-year-old granddaughter was treated in Israel for a digestive tract infection.
