As support for Israel continues to drop worldwide, one unlikely country has emerged as a staunch defender of the Jewish State.

A new piece of legislation passed by Germany this week mandates that those seeking citizenship must unequivocally support Israel and reject all forms of antisemitism. Aspiring citizens will face a battery of questions designed to expose any anti-Israel bias, with the Interior Ministry making it clear that those who do not share Germany’s values will be denied naturalization.

“Whoever shares our values and makes an effort can now get a German passport more quickly and is not required to give up a part of their identity with the former citizenship,” Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said on Friday.

“We have also made it just as clear: Whoever doesn’t share our values will not be able to get a German passport. Here we have drawn a crystal clear red line and made the law much stronger than before,” she said. “Anti-Semitism, racism, and other forms of contempt for humanity rule out naturalization. There is no tolerance for that.”

For a country that bears the weight of its Nazi past, the significance of its decision cannot be overstated. With the world’s largest Arab diaspora in Europe and rising antisemitic incidents since Hamas’ massacre against Israel on October 7, Germany could have easily taken the path of least resistance.

However, unlike the United States whose relationship with its closest ally has been strained, Germany’s unwavering support for Israel doesn’t seem to be driven by realpolitik or economic interests. Rather, it seems to stem from a deep-rooted belief in the power of redemption and standing up for the truth, whatever the cost.

The humbling power of redemption; the eminence of truth.
Thanks to the author for this eloquent clarity.

That’s the only right and proper decent stance to take.
