Israeli security forces are growing increasingly concerned about terrorists in Judea and Samaria attempting to mimic the terror tunneling tactics frequently used by Hamas in Gaza, reports Yediot Ahronot.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Central Command has established a dedicated unit tasked with identifying and investigating potential terror tunnels across Judea and Samaria, according to the report. This specialized team includes experts from diverse backgrounds, such as engineering and intelligence. They are responsible for carrying out detailed situational analyses triggered by intelligence leads or any signs indicating the possible presence of terror tunnels.

“We have seen the use of underground facilities as hideouts and weapons depots in the past. We understand that terrorist organizations are attempting to imitate some of the techniques used in Gaza. We are very involved in this, and our main response will be the offensive operations that we frequently carry out,” a security official told the Israeli news outlet.

Judea and Samaria have seen an uptick in violence over recent weeks. A terrorist opened fire at the Gush Etzion junction on Tuesday, injuring two security personnel. The terrorist, identified as 30-year-old Ziad al-Hamran from Jenin, was neutralized during the exchange.
