The European Parliament passed a resolution on Thursday condemning Iran’s unprecedented drone and missile attack on Israel earlier this month.

In a strongly worded statement following the 357- 20 vote, the European Parliament voiced “serious concern over the escalation and threat to regional security” that Iran is causing in the Middle East and reiterated its “full support for the security of the State of Israel and its citizens.” EU leaders also denounced the simultaneous rocket attacks carried out by Iran’s proxies Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthi rebels in Yemen against the Golan Heights on April 13.

The resolution calls for the inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Hezbollah in its entirety on the European Union’s list of recognized terror organizations. It calls for new sanctions against Iran, including sanctioning the country’s supply and production of unmanned drones and missiles to Russia and the broader Middle East.

Exposing Iran’s defiance, the motion underscores the regime’s brazen disregard for nuclear compliance and also calls for the implementation of Resolution 1701 in Lebanon, demanding Hezbollah’s cessation of hostilities and retreat beyond the Litani River.

In response, Foreign Minister Israel Katz took to social media to praise the unprecedented vote.

“The decision of the European Parliament is a milestone. We will work to impose crippling sanctions on Iran and curb its aggression. I congratulate the European Parliament for the important and unprecedented declaration today and call on all European leaders to act accordingly. Iran needs to be stopped now – before it’s too late,” Katz wrote on X.

“Another Israeli political success and another blow to Iran. We are tightening the chokehold around the neck of the Iranian octopus. The world understands that Iran needs to be stopped now before it is too late,” Katz added.
