Dr. Homayoun Sameh, the Jewish community representative to the Iranian parliament, has come out in defense of his government’s failed missile attack on Israel. In an interview with Kan News on Sunday, as cited by Arutz Sheva, Sameh claimed that the regime’s true intention was not to hit all its targets but rather to create confusion.
“Our goal was not to hit with all of the missiles. First, we created confusion with the UAVs, then hit the positions we wanted,” he said.
Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel on Saturday follows an alleged Israeli strike on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus that killed a top Iranian commander. Following that attack, Sameh, a known critic of Israel within the Iranian Jewish community, characterized the attack on the embassy as a significant crime supported by “arrogant people,” suggesting it would inspire “global resistance against oppression.”
“There is no doubt that we will soon win and avenge the injustice, and by the grace of the Almighty, there will be a sustainable peace based on justice, and fairness will overcome oppression,” Sameh said, as quoted by Arutz Sheva.
Iran has the second-largest Jewish population in the Middle East, following Israel. Today, there are about 8,000 Jews in Iran, a significant decrease from the 80,000 to 100,000 who lived there prior to the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Officially, they are recognized as a religious minority and are allotted one seat in the anti-Israel parliament.
