The Iranian army has been put on high alert, and plans for a direct response against the West have been prepared after a strike in Syria resulted in the death of a senior commander, reports The New York Times.

An F-55 airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus last week killed Iranian commander Reza Zahedi and his deputy. He was crucial in delivering Iranian armaments to Hezbollah.

‘The revenge for the killing of a Zahidi will be at the appropriate time and place. We will determine the way to take revenge. We will make Israel regret its actions,’ stated Iran’s Chief of Staff Mohammad Bakri following the attack.

With the end of Ramadan approaching on Tuesday night, analysts are anticipating that Iran might take advantage of the sentiment and launch an attack. Reports indicate movements of pro-Iranian militia forces and military reinforcements from northern to western Damascus in Syria.

The Biden administration is purportedly anxious about Iran’s potential targeting of locations within Israel. The New York Times has released statements from US officials expressing apprehension over the inevitability of an Iranian counterstrike within the Jewish State, describing the chances as ‘significant.’

As regional threats continue to grow, on Saturday, the US Navy in the Persian Sea escalated its alertness level to the maximum.”
