Five female Israeli soldiers held captive by Hamas are at the center of a disturbing video released by their families on Wednesday. Captured at the Nahal Oz base near the Israel-Gaza border on October 7, the heart-wrenching video begins with a scene that will haunt the minds of viewers for years to come. Liri Albag, 18, Karina Ariev, 19, Agam Berger, 19, Daniela Gilboa, 19, and Naama Levy, 19, are seen pressed against a wall, their hands bound behind their backs, and blood smeared across their faces and clothes. These young women, visibly frightened, plead with their captors in a desperate attempt to secure their freedom. In a twisted display of inhumanity, the Hamas terrorists engage in a chilling conversation with their hostages, their words dripping with threats and mockery. After three minutes the video cuts to a scene where the hostages are roughly loaded into a waiting vehicle with gunfire echoing in the background. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, who released the video on behalf of the families, issued a scathing statement condemning the Israeli government’s failure to secure the release of the hostages. “The video is a damning testament to the nation’s failure to bring home the hostages, who have been forsaken for 229 days. There is no greater mission, no more significant achievement, and no chance to restore hope to Israel without the return of all – the living for rehabilitation and the murdered for burial. The Israeli government must not waste even one more moment – it must return to the negotiating table today!”
