The Palestinian Authority (PA) is reconsidering its diplomatic ties with the United States following the latter’s role in blocking its bid to gain full membership to the United Nations this week, reports WAFA News.

“The Palestinian leadership is going to develop a new strategy to protect Palestinian national decisions independently and follow a Palestinian agenda rather than an American vision or regional agendas,” Abbas told the Arabic news agency. “We will not remain hostage to policies that have proven their failure and have been exposed to the entire world.”

On Thursday, 12 out of the 15 members of the UN Security Council, including France, Russia, and Japan, voted in favor of Palestinian statehood, with the United Kingdom and Switzerland abstaining. As expected, the US rejected the motion, following its policy that Israel must participate in negotiations before a Palestinian state could be recognized.

According to Abbas, the Biden Administration reneged on its promises and commitments, allowing Israel to “weaken” the PA, and remains silent on Israel’s “theft of Palestinian land.” He warned that the ongoing Israeli “genocide” of the Arab people, coupled with an “onslaught on UNRWA” aimed at “starving” Arabs, could drive the region to the brink of disaster.

“The Palestinian cause is unbreakable, immutable, and unyielding. The sacrifices, patience, and resilience of the Palestinian people on their land, and their unbreakable will, will thwart all policies supported by America,” he said. “They will not allow deals that do not serve the national interest to succeed, and all conspiracies will collapse.”
