Los Angeles police are on high alert after several pro-Arab organizations have mobilized to interfere with Sunday night’s 96th Oscar Awards, reveals the Hollywood Reporter.
The protests are organized by a coalition of organizers, artists, and film workers in collaboration with Writers Against the War on Gaza LA (WAWOG), Film Workers for Palestine, SAG-AFTRA Members for Ceasefire, and other pro-Arab groups.
Join the JBN+ WhatsApp Group“We will not be distracted by the entertainment industry. We WILL continue to call for a permanent ceasefire and Palestinian liberation. Let’s mobilize and take to the streets to show that we refuse to look away from this ongoing genocide! Ceasefire NOW!” says a message from Film Workers for Palestine on Instagram.
Intelligence reports obtained by the LAPD reveal the demonstrators are planning to block entrances and exits to the Dolby Theater, as well as the surrounding streets, to call for the end of the “blockade of Gaza and the occupation of Palestine.”
In preparation for the expected protests, Los Angeles police are reportedly enhancing security measures around the event venue. Steel fencing, a common precaution for events facing protests, has already been erected. Security officials have expressed confidence in their preparedness, stating they have several contingency plans ready if necessary, ensuring that the award show’s guests and nominees will not experience delays or problems.
