A majority of Israelis are not satisfied with the progress Israel has made in its war against Hamas, six months into the conflict, a recent survey by the Lazar Research Institute reveals.

According to the survey, fewer than one-third of Israelis feel content with the outcomes of the war that erupted on on Oct. 7, a Hamas onslaught of southern Israel. Only 29% of those surveyed consider the achievements in the war to be “satisfactory,” while a considerable 62% expressed dissatisfaction with the current outcomes, leaving 9% undecided on the matter.

Opinions contrasted significantly along political lines. Among those who support the current right-wing government, 61% are pleased with the war’s progress, contrasting with 33% who are not and 6% who are unsure. In stark contrast, opposition supporters display greater discontent, with only 17% satisfied with the war’s results, 79% dissatisfied, and 4% uncertain.

A growing protest movement in Israel wants Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately agree to a hostage deal and cease-fire, even if it means accepting terms that would give Hamas a greater chance of surviving the war. Sources close to the Israeli Prime Minister have told The New York Times that his approach to negotiations ultimately is a stronger position on the battlefield enhances Israel’s leverage in hostage negotiations.
