An Israeli airstrike in the southern Lebanese village of Sultaniyeh on Monday killed a senior commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force.

As per the IDF, Ali Ahmed Hassin was in charge of the Radwan Force’s operations in the Hajir district of Lebanon, holding a position equivalent to that of a brigade leader. In his capacity, Hassin was instrumental in devising and executing terrorist acts aimed at civilians in the northern regions of Israel. In addition to Hassin, two more Hezbollah terrorists were also killed in the strike.

The strategic purpose of the Radwan Force, as reported by various military analyses and statements from Hezbollah itself, remain somewhat shrouded in mystery. Yet, it is generally recognized as a highly trained unit, with its expertise in guerrilla warfare honed through active participation in the 2001 Syrian Civil War.

The strength of Hezbollah’s Radwan Force is estimated to be about 8,000 terrorists.

Since Oct 7, Hezbollah has fired over 3,100 rockets toward Israel’s north, forcing thousands of civilians to leave their homes. Israeli officials have been demanding that Hezbollah leave southern Lebanon and give up its weapons in compliance with UN Security Council resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war.
