A study released to coincide with International Women’s Day on March 8 shows that women continue to be underrepresented in the high-tech sector in Israel.
Provided by RISE Israel, a non-profit organization that emphasizes the inclusion of diverse populations in technology, the study indicates that no significant progress has been made in recent years to address this issue. It reveals that women constituted only 36% of the workforce in Israel’s high-tech sector in 2023, a figure that remains unchanged from 2022. This underrepresentation also extends to education, with women comprising just 28% of students in high-tech specializations.
Join the JBN+ WhatsApp GroupIsrael also lags behind the United States and Europe in female-led entrepreneurship. According to the data, in 2023, the proportion of tech companies with at least one female founder who managed to raise capital was 16% in Israel, compared to 25% in Europe and 26% in the US.
Yam Atir, the Head of Strategy at RISE Israel, commented on the findings, stating “Increasing the representation of women in tech in general, and in key roles in particular, is a tangible necessity, both for the sake of promoting equality and for expanding the workforce in this industry.”
“Especially now, when the economic locomotive has also become a significant social engine in Israel, it is even more important to make the sector more equal and diverse,” he added.
