Pride of Israel, a synagogue in the heart of Toronto, became the latest Jewish institution targeted since October 7th.

On Sunday morning, rocks and stones were thrown at the synagogue, shattering glass panels above the doors and stained glass windows in the sanctuary. The incident has drawn comparisons to Kristallnacht in Nazi Germany. Police are investigating it as a potential hate crime.

This attack is part of a disturbing pattern of violence against Jewish institutions in Canada, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area.

– June 1: A man smashed a window of a Toronto synagogue with a rock.

– May 25: Two masked men were caught on camera shooting multiple gunshots at Bais Chaya Mushka, an Orthodox girls’ school in Toronto.

– May 17 and April 19: Windows of the Toronto Kehillat Shaarei Torah synagogue were smashed.

– April 26 and April 28: Signs at another synagogue in the same area were set on fire.

– June 13: A synagogue window in London, Ontario, was smashed, with a rock found near the shattered glass.

“It is out of control and must stop,” said B’nai Brith Canada Chief Operating Officer Judy Foldes in a Sunday statement. “We implore police forces to monitor Jewish institutions closely and vigilantly during this troubling time for Jewish Canadians.”
